Gero's observations on humanity

Return to Zygorian home

Excerpt from Zygors Don't:

“I am saying that humans have spent more energy on creating killing machines and on making war than on fighting disease or the acquisition of knowledge. What other sentient being has conjured up more ways of torturing and killing its own species? What other creature expends so much of its resources in defeating itself? What other species is so fundamentally evil?”

Commentary:

This statement by Gero when the space scouts are planning the trip to Earth is not all wrong. He may be the villain but his observations are not completely false. Since the beginning of human history, human beings have spent much if not most of their energy and resources in killing other human beings. Could there be something fundamentally wrong with a species that spends so many resources in killing itself? Or is this a basic characteristic of any intelligent species that could evolve anywhere in the universe?

Gero’s observations on humanity may be not be wrong, but is he being led down the wrong path because he does not understand the underlying forces at play?
